TREATMENT
The Bone and Body Clinic’s approach to diagnosis and treatment is based upon a fundamental understanding of the human body as one linked system. A treatment plan is designed for each patient that combines therapies developed from the traditional health and fitness systems used in Manipur. Our treatment combines the realignment, repositioning and securing of the body’s joints, tendons, ligaments and muscles.

Musculoskeletal problems and misalignment of the body
We treat spinal conditions where the vertebrae are misaligned as a result of injury or due to conditions such as kyphosis and scoliosis. We also treat disc conditions such as degenerative disc disorders, bulging and ruptured discs, trapped nerves in the back, and other spinal conditions – typically resulting from accident, injury, poor posture or hereditary/genetic causes. We also treat injuries to all the joints in the body, especially knee and hip injuries.
Sports injuries
We specialise in treating sports related injuries, such as meniscus and ACL (anterior cruciate ligament) tears, patellofemoral syndrome, ankle sprains, lateral epicondylitis (tennis elbow), and shin splints.
Since our treatments return the body to correct positioning without surgery, athletes typically benefit from a shorter recovery time, and they are able to return to training faster and without the instability and reoccurrence of problems that often result from surgical interventions.
Related conditions
When undergoing treatment, the patient is also examined for other conditions or problems, which may be related to spinal misalignment. For example, lower spine injury can lead to kidney-related issues or digestive disorders, while upper spine injury can impact the proper functioning of the lungs. Using a range of therapies and natural medicines, we treat, whenever possible, all the related conditions that we identify.
Stomach and digestive conditions
Using a traditional Manipuri technique, the Bone and Body Clinic also treats a wide range of stomach and digestive disorders. The treatment is a combination of physical therapy augmented by natural medicines and remedies. Conditions such as gastric bloating, constipation, food intolerance, severe indigestion, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), Crohn’s Disease, and perforated ulcers have all been successfully treated using this technique.

HOW WE TREAT
First, we take a detailed confidential online medical history. This is essential to ensure that we are aware of the full chronology of the patient’s health problems and concerns. We then conduct a full physical examination or a more detailed online assessment if the patient is not able to attend the clinic in person.
A treatment programme/timeframe is then suggested.
Treatment programmes vary depending on the specific nature of the condition being treated, as well as other factors such as the patient’s age and general health.
The treatment usually includes a combination of the following:

TREATMENT METHODS
Manipuri musculoskeletal techniques (Hakchang Sharu Polang Semba) require a confluence of precision and proper pressure to manually realign the individual joints of the spine and the rest of the joints in the body. While conventional medicine may, for example, treat just the knee, Dr Paonam’s approach looks at what has happened to the hip, the spine and the rest of the body in conjunction with the problem in the knee and brings the whole structure back into alignment.
Joint misalignment can be acute or chronic. When chronic, the realignment generally requires a progressive series of alignments that step by step brings each area of the body back into alignment as it becomes ready.
The stretching rehabilitation exercises and supporting treatments are essential to facilitate that readiness by training the muscles and softening the related connective tissue.

REHABILITATION
Stretching rehabilitation (Haksel Kanglon) is an exercise system based on martial arts stretching forms which have been adapted to suit different fitness levels.
They are an essential component of the treatment process, enabling the muscles and connective tissue to become strong enough to support correct joint alignment. When practised with attention and discipline, they also contribute greatly to the development of mental and physical wellbeing.
MANIPURI SUPPORTING TREATMENTS
Tendon realignment (Shingli Naori Mapham Tahanba) involves softening tendons and encouraging them to support the spine in its proper position to facilitate the continuing realignment process.
Digestive treatment (Puk Suba) is a manual technique that frees the digestive system of blockages and stagnation, which in turn supports the immune and nervous systems. The Manipuri medical system has long known that the health of the whole body depends on the health of the gut.
Blood circulation (Mare Shuba) moves the blood from the tendons, forcing a flush of new blood into the area. This technique is often used in areas around joints that have restricted movement due to injury or lack of movement.
Massage (Tongsha Neikhaiba) is used to stimulate or relax muscles, according to the requirements of the patient, to facilitate the realignment process.
MEDICINE AND FOOD
Maibarol, the Manipuri form of natural and plant-based medicine, draws upon indigenous plants and techniques to address the source of many conditions. It considers the client’s interaction with his or her environment when diagnosing and treating disease.

The duration of treatment depends on a number of factors such as age, general health and fitness, type of injury and secondary conditions. Usually there is a minimum treatment time of two weeks but typically for serious conditions such as scoliosis a minimum of four weeks is required. The cost of treatment depends on the complexity of the problem and the amount of time the treatment takes. For detailed information about treatment fees, contact us so we can make a preliminary assessment of your condition and needs. Please note, an accurate estimate can only be provided following a full physical assessment.
